Rebecca Kern is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over a decade of experience supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorder and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). She is also a Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (ASDCS), with specialized expertise in understanding the functions of behavior and delivering Person- Centered, Trauma-informed care. Rebecca is also certified as a Dementia Practitioner (CDP) and a Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer (CADDCT).

Here is a little bit about me…

I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for more than 16 years, working with adults including those who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and related conditions. My approach is rooted in compassion, clinical insight, and a deep understanding of behavioral function, which allows me to tailor interventions that promote meaningful growth and independence.

I am also a Certified Dementia Practitioner and a Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer, equipping me to support aging individuals and their families with informed, empathetic care.

Before entering the counseling field, I spent 7 years as a special education teacher in Humble ISD, working with elementary aged students. These experiences- spanning both childhood and adulthood- have shaped my holistic and individualized approach to service delivery, ensuring that each person receives support aligned with strengths, needs, and goals.

On a personal note, I have been married to my best friend and greatest supporter, Kevin for 32 years. He is the CEO for Avondale House, an organization that provides services to those with autism. We are proud parents to two adult daughters, Jessica and Emily, and share our home with a lively crew of dogs, cats and birds. I am passionate about geology, chess, nature, travel, reading, and cooking- and I have a deep affection for all creatures (with the exception of insects)!

Above all, I find immense joy in helping those I serve. Witnessing individuals apply what they have learned in counseling to enrich their daily lives is the most rewarding part of my work.

I look forward to learning more about you and supporting your journey.
