Licensed Professional Counselor & Psychotherapist
-
Before becoming an independent counselor with my own practice, I previously worked at a local non-profit that served adults with IDD and autism. I was the Director of Behavior Services for 17 years, which included my providing counseling as well as behavior supports. I developed behavior support plans and worked in alignment with the Texas Medicaid waivers such as HCS, CLASS, and TxHmL. This knowledge and experience allowed me to provide unique and holistic supports to this population so that they could become their best selves.
While I am certified as a Dementia Practitioner (CDP) and a Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer (CADDCT), I have also completed doctoral coursework for Psychology with a specialization in Gerontology, which allows me to support aging individuals and their families with informed and empathetic care. I am two chapters away from completing my dissertation to become a PhD in Psychology with a specialization in Gerontology.
I am extensively trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), a research-supported approach that effectively treats insomnia and circadian rhythm-related sleep difficulties.
I have specialized expertise in understanding how we function as human-beings through our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. My approach to counseling integrates evidence-based therapeutic techniques with a holistic, wellness-oriented perspective. I practice from a person-centered foundation while incorporating Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-focused interventions to support meaningful, sustainable change.

I specialize in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), developing individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and creating data-driven treatment programs that promote meaningful progress. When working with families, I strive to create positive, collaborative relationships that foster growth, confidence, and meaningful outcomes for every child I serve. In my day-to-day practice, this philosophy is driven by four core commitments:
Prioritizing Assent and Agency: I actively monitor and respect both vocal and non-vocal assent. Therapeutics should happen with a client, not to them. If a client is demonstrating distress or withdrawal, I view it as vital feedback to modify the environment or approach, rather than a behavior to be overridden.
Socially Significant Goal Selection: Goals must be chosen based on their direct benefit to the individual's independence and happiness, not just for the convenience of the environment. I emphasize functional communication, self-advocacy, and emotional regulation skills to help clients build essential communication, social, and adaptive daily living skills while reducing barriers to learning.
Strengths-Based Programming: I design interventions that build upon an individual's existing strengths, preferences, and unique learning style, ensuring that our programming is engaging and validating.
Collaborative & Compassionate Care: Throughout my career, I have collaborated closely with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure treatment strategies are practical, effective, and generalized across environments. By aligning behavioral programming with a family's cultural values and daily realities, we create sustainable, meaningful outcomes that extend far beyond the clinical setting.
Ultimately, my goal as a practitioner is to utilize the science of ABA compassionately and ethically. I am committed to providing evidence-based care that empowers both clients and their support systems, ensuring that our interventions pave the way for individuals to live full, self-determined, and successful lives.
Tia Boyett, M.Ed., BCBA, LBA
Licensed Professional Counselor & Psychotherapist
I am a dedicated Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with over six years of experience supporting children and adolescents with autism and developmental disabilities across clinic, home, and community settings. I earned my Master of Education in Special Education with a concentration in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of Houston–Victoria and have worked in the field since 2019, progressing from a Registered Behavior Technician to a BCBA. My clinical practice is deeply rooted in a person-centered framework that prioritizes the dignity, autonomy, and unique voice of every individual I serve. I firmly believe that effective Applied Behavior Analysis is not about forcing compliance; rather, it is a collaborative partnership aimed at enhancing an individual's quality of life and expanding their independence.

Here is a little bit about me…
I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for more than 16 years with 19 years of working with diverse individuals including those who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and related conditions.
Before entering the counseling field, I spent 7 years as a special education teacher in Humble ISD, working with elementary aged students. These experiences- spanning both childhood and adulthood- have shaped my holistic and individualized approach to service delivery, ensuring that each person receives support aligned with strengths, needs, and goals.
On a personal note, I have been married to my best friend and greatest supporter, Kevin for 32 years. He is the CEO for Avondale House, an organization that provides services to those with autism. We are proud parents to two adult daughters, Jessica and Emily, and share our home with a lively crew of dogs, cats and birds. I am passionate about geology, astronomy, chess, nature, travel, reading, and cooking- and I have a deep affection for all creatures (with the exception of insects)!
Above all, I find immense joy in helping those I serve. Witnessing individuals apply what they have learned in counseling to enrich their daily lives is the most rewarding part of my work.
I look forward to learning more about you and supporting your journey.
